On this one you embark on an unforgettable adventure with RealCusco unto two surreal places: Chonta and Lake Humantay. We shall start our journey on a relaxed two hour walk towards the Condor lookout, from where we are to observe perched up on a privileged slice above the Apurimac canyon our most emblematic and majestic of all creatures in her pristine home. On this hike there will be many awe-inspiring views of the Apurimac canyon where pictures and videos will come out flawless. We will always have binoculars on deck to get the most out of viewing the landscape and of course, the undisturbed condors on their daily flight paths. On this first day we spend most of our time at the viewpoint and then we head back to the village of Chonta for a night of camping in front of the grandiose glacier capped mountains of Humantay and Salkantay.
On our second day we are going to be hiking towards Humantay, an unequivocally picturesque Andean lake. Her crystal clear turquoise waters radiate beauty, a clarity reflected off the unrelenting dominance of the sky high glacier which bears the same name. The hike up isn’t exactly easy however it is rather short as each person goes at their own rhythm until we all make it to the top (arriving to an altitude approximately 15,000 feet). If anyone feels they can’t make it to the lake, we always have the option to rent horses to make the trip easier (each person pays for their own horse). Upon hiking upwards an incredibly breathtaking view opens up below us; As we traverse the pass the sheer brilliance of the Humantay glacier shows itself in full force. Here we can visually trace the path of the glacier melt as it flows downwards to the lake: As pure as it gets! After arriving we can traverse the lake on the many trails that surround it, or if the legs and lungs are beaten we can just lay down and enjoy this very unique and captivating landscape.
After getting picked up from the hotel, we head out of Cusco to get to Chonta (3,400 Metres above sea level). Chonta is a small town in the county of Limatambo. On our way through about an hour and a half into the trip we’ll have breakfast in Limatambo. After breakfast we’ll have a chance to by whatever snacks and beverages at a corner store and then jump back in the car for another hour and a half until we get to Chonta. Upon arriving in Chonta we will have to register ourselves at the checkpoint and pay the park entrance fee. Then we begin the hour and a half trek up through the valley passing by 3 amazing viewpoints until we get to the main one. We will have two to three hours to spend at these spots where we check out the condors, munch down our packed launch, and enjoy the scenery as we feel the brisk Andean breeze that flows up from the valley. After our amazing time seeing the valley we head back down to our camping site.

Day two Summary:
After talking down the camp in Chonta, we’ll begin our route towards Humantay heading out with our vehicle for about an hour and twenty minutes. We’ll arrive in the town of Mollepata, eat our much needed breakfast and have a chance to get snacks for the day’s hike. We then drive up a smaller mountain two track to go up the valley towards Soraypampa, where we park and begin the day’s hike towards the village of Soraypampa from the parking area. From here the village upwards is supplied with all their goods coming in and out on mules or on horseback (There is the option to rent horses or mules since the hike gets above 4,200 meters, or around 14,000 feet. Please advise upon booking the tour if needed). From the village we begin the uphill hike to the lake, which will take us about an hour and a half. When we arrive we’ll take plenty of time to enjoy the mystical high Andes’ scenery. Aside from the packed lunch we will have tea with us to fend off the chills of the high thin air. There are a couple of different paths to traverse the lake and also see how it fills from the glacial runoff. The way downhill is a bit quicker than the way up but we still tread carefully as we head down to Soraypampa to have lunch. After eating we walk about 20 minutes to the parking area to hop back in the car and head back to Cuzco, which will take about 3 to 4 hours. Upon arriving in downtown Cuzco we end our tour Chonta and Lake Humantay; We wish you the most amazing experiences during the rest of your stay in Peru!
